The suspect in the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah, according to senior law enforcement officials.
According to NBC News, a family member of Robinson recognized him in photos released by authorities and alerted police.
Robinson also allegedly confessed to his father about Kirk’s murder. His father then contacted authorities and ensured Robinson remained at home until law enforcement arrived.
During an interview with investigators, a family member reportedly stated that Robinson had “become more political” in recent years and was aware of Kirk’s scheduled appearance at Utah Valley University. The two had discussed their disagreement with Kirk and his views.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that investigators also interviewed Robinson’s roommate, who showed authorities Discord messages in which Robinson allegedly disclosed the location where he left the weapon.
Authorities recovered a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” from a nearby wooded area. The weapon was identified as a Mauser bolt-action rifle with a mounted scope. (Editor’s Note: The original description of the rifle as “model 9830 odd six caliber, 36 caliber” appears inaccurate or garbled; official sources simply describe it as a Mauser bolt-action rifle.)
It is also important to mention that The Wall Street Journal falsely reported that the bullet casings were etched with trans ideology. The bullet casing retrieved was actually engraved with: “Hey fascist! Catch!”, “Oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao”, “If you read this, you are gay LMAO”, and one included a viral 2018 and 2019 internet meme “Notices, bulges, OwO what’s this?”.
Governor Cox added that surveillance footage showed Robinson arriving at Utah Valley University at 8:29 a.m. in a gray Dodge Challenger.
A spokesperson confirmed that Robinson attended Utah State University for one semester in 2021.
No known motive has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
