Three Mass Shootings Reported Across U.S. in 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, the United States has experienced three major mass shootings. North Carolina, Louisiana, and Michigan have all been affected by the epidemic of gun violence spreading across the nation. Several people have died and over a dozen others have been injured, leaving unforgettable impacts in these communities. 

In Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, authorities say 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, entered a church and allegedly started a fire before opening fire on worshippers. Two people died and at least eight others were injured. Authorities say Sanford used an assault rifle and there were hundreds of people inside the building at the time.

In Southport, North Carolina, three people were killed and at least eight reported as injured at American Fish Company, a waterfront bar. Authorities say 40-year-old Marine veteran Nigel Edge pulled up to the bar by boat and began shooting. Edge has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. The attack has been reported as “highly premeditated”, according to Southport Police Chief Todd Coring.

In New Orleans, Louisiana, Bourbon Street was met with gunfire around 2:22am on Sunday morning, leaving one woman dead and three others injured. There is currently no suspect in custody. Detectives are currently working to secure video surveillance of the area to help identify the suspect. As of Sept. 30, 2025, it reported there have been 382 mass shootings in the U.S according to Mass Shooting Tracker.
