Finals week is one of the most demanding periods in a student’s academic journey. With long study hours, overlapping deadlines, and constant pressure, students often prioritize productivity over their basic needs. Among these, food is frequently overlooked, yet it plays a critical role in maintaining both energy and focus.

During this time, food becomes more than just nourishment; it becomes a source of stability. Many students rely on quick and accessible options such as fruits, sandwiches, or simple home-cooked meals to keep going. Even something as small as a warm drink can create a sense of routine and help sustain concentration during long study sessions.

Nutrition directly affects cognitive performance. Meals that include a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats help maintain steady energy levels, allowing students to stay focused for longer periods. In contrast, relying heavily on processed or sugary snacks may lead to short bursts of energy followed by fatigue, making it harder to stay consistent.

Food also carries emotional value during stressful times. A familiar meal can provide comfort and a sense of grounding. For many students, this might be a dish that is simple, filling, and easy to prepare with limited time and resources. One example is aloo rice, also known as spicy tehri a warm, comforting combination of rice, potatoes, and everyday spices that can be made quickly without complicated steps.

A Simple Finals Week Recipe: Spicy Aloo Rice (Tehri)

A practical meal that balances convenience, nutrition, and comfort which makes it ideal during busy academic periods.

This dish is not only quick and affordable; it also provides steady energy, making it especially useful during finals week. It can be prepared in advance, stored easily, and reheated when needed, helping students save both time, money, and effort.

At the same time, finals week can disrupt regular eating habits. Skipping meals or eating irregularly can lead to decreased focus and increased stress. Being mindful of consistent meals and hydration is essential for maintaining overall well-being.

Food plays a quiet but powerful role in supporting students through finals week as it fuels the body, sharpens the mind, and provides comfort during moments of pressure. By making simple and intentional choices, students can better sustain themselves throughout this challenging time.
