Charlie Kirk, conservative writer and activist, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Utah Valley University was the first stop on Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour.” He was struck 20 minutes into the event, during an open forum titled Prove Me Wrong. This was a debate-style session where attendees were invited to challenge and converse with him. At the time of the shooting, the topic under discussion was mass shootings.
Attendees reported a lack of visible security measures at the event.
President Trump announced Kirk’s passing on Truth Social, stating, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.”
Utah Governor Spencer Cox posted on X, “I just got off the phone with President Trump. Working with the FBI and Utah law enforcement, we will bring to justice the individual responsible for this tragedy.”
The suspect remains at large. A previously detained person of interest has been released.
Regardless of political affiliation, senseless violence is never the answer.
