UPDATE: December 26, 2025 Pretrial Release Conditions Set in Tea Tyme Case:

Court records show that TikTok creator Tea Tyme, legally identified as Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, was released from custody on pretrial release in Lake County on Dec. 26, 2025, with no monetary bond required. According to the Lake County court docket, the judge-imposed Level 4 pretrial supervision, the highest level of non detention monitoring, requiring McCarty to report regularly to pretrial services. The court also ordered several strict conditions of release, including: A curfew to be set and enforced by pretrial bond services, a no driving order, and no social media use outside of the home. No fines, fees, or restitution were assessed at the time of release.

Original Story: The TikTok creator Tea Tyme, who has been identified by authorities as Tynesha McCarty-Wroten, was arrested in Zion in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that killed Darren Lucas, according to police and jail records.

Investigators say Lucas, 59, was walking through a marked crosswalk when he was struck by McCarty’s vehicle. Authorities allege McCarty was livestreaming on TikTok at the time of the crash and ran a red light before hitting Lucas. He later died from his injuries.

Booking information from Zion and Lake County inmate records shows McCarty was taken into custody following the investigation. She is facing felony charges, including reckless homicide and aggravated use of a communication device while driving.

The case has drawn public attention and renewed discussion around distracted driving and the dangers of using social media while operating a vehicle.

Editor’s Note: Over the past year a trend has started on streaming platforms such as Twitch, KICK, and TikTok where streamers on these platforms, usually looking for clout and an audience, purposely partake in reckless driving. These live streams have become common place on these platforms, particularly with KICK.

This trend has led to numerous accident, most nearly fatal. Now with Tea Tyme it has. With content creator “pranksters” harassing and assaulting the public and the rise of reckless driving streams, it is ever more important to stay alert to your surroundings and take a break from the phone.
