I met with thespians that are bringing politics center stage in upcoming performances you won’t want to miss this month.  

I connected with a member of The Northfield Arts Guild Theater regarding their upcoming production of “Little Wars”. This work is set on the eve of Hitler’s WWII invasion of France in May of 1940.  The most influential women of their time (Gertrude Stein, Lillian Hellman, Agatha Christie, Alice B. Toklas, Dorothy Parker and more) gather for an imaginary dinner party to discuss the onslaught of fascism. They argue, laugh, console; there are confessions made, secrets shared, and a mystery to solve.   

Written by Steven McCasland and hailed by New York Critics as brilliant and mesmerizing, this timely drama explores the impacts of antisemitism as it spread across Europe. Upcoming performances will be held on April 24th and April 25th at 7:30 PM, and Sunday April 26th at 2pm.  The performances are being held at Calvary Baptist Church located at 2608 Blaisdell Ave. in Minneapolis.  Tickets are $20 and all proceeds will be donated to the Immigrant Law Center and are available online at https://www.outofthemistceltictheater.com. Little Wars is a co-production of Northfield Arts Guild Theater and Out of The Mist Celtic Theatre.  The Playwright will join us for the Friday, April 24th performance.   

Additionally, there will be a staged reading of “It Can’t Happen Here…Again” on the 10^th and 26^th of April. “Our democracy is under attack, and we must learn to recognize fascism,” states the organizer. Written by Writers for Democratic Action and presented by Theater De Facto, you can see it for free. Upcoming performances are being held on April 10th at 7:00 pm at the Meraki Community and Events Center located at 100 W. 46th St. In Minneapolis, and on April 26th at 2:00 pm at First Congregational Church located at 500 8th Ave SE. in Minneapolis.
