Last week, the White House shared a website link along with an AI-generated gif depicting a UFO beaming a hooded figure over a border fence. The link was for a page on the White house website, titled “Aliens Declassified.” The page talks of aliens who “shopped in the same stores, attended the same classes as our children, and lived seemingly normal human existences… they do not belong here.” This seems to allude to the illegal immigrants or “aliens” in America, with over three million “encounters” so far and an arrest map.  

It’s no secret the Trump administration’s views on immigration. With ICE attacks and the murder of Alex Pretti and Reneé Good last January, the Trump administration continues to twist a narrative in hopes of justifying their actions. 

When one logs onto the White House site, one reads statements like “Under President Trump’s second administration, the United States has surged into a new era of prosperity marked by record-setting economic growth and trillions in new private-sector investments fueled by tax reforms, deregulation, and a renewed focus on American innovation.” According to the White House, America is prospering.  

But is that true? 

When one goes to their local grocery store, it is plain to see the reality facing Americans today. Grocery and gas bills are still high and climbing, and yet we are led to believe the opposite by the White House, that we are now in a golden era.  

Ahead of the United States’ 250^th anniversary, our government’s latest escapades of spinning false narratives give echoes of the Orwellian. News that casts the administration in an unfavorable light is disregarded as fake news, while praise for the administration is amplified. And now, illegal immigrants are to be considered aliens straight out of the “X-Files.” 

This blatant skewing of the facts for personal benefit makes many Americans uneasy. According to “The Economist,” Trump’s approval rating has seen a gradual decline since his reelection. As of June 5^th, the site reports only 35% approval and 60% disapproval.  

In the face of the public’s misgivings, the Trump administration continues to invent a story lauding the president as the savior of America, while painting illegal immigrants as “aliens” to be extinguished and dehumanized.
