After the Ballots: Navigating the 2024 Election Outcomes

Join AASCU’s American Democracy Project for a thoughtful conversation after the 2024 elections. In this conversation, we will: 

  • Debrief the Results: Engage in thoughtful analysis of the election outcomes, exploring the potential impacts on higher education and the diverse communities we serve. 
  • Share Reactions and Concerns: Provide a supportive space for faculty and staff to express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns about the election’s implications. 
  • Reaffirm Our Commitment to Civic Engagement: Discuss how we can continue to encourage civic responsibility and active participation on our campuses, recognizing that the work of democracy extends beyond the ballot box. 
  • Discuss Next Steps: Collaborate on strategies for fostering productive dialogue, supporting students, and strengthening campus climate in the post-election period.

Brave Open Spaces for Black Students

Join the Multicultural, American Indian, and Retention Services department for a conversation about black people living in Minnesota and share the importance of black people and blackness. The theme for this meeting is “Black and Election Results.”

Veterans Center Monthly Meetup

Join fellow veterans and military-connected students for an evening of games and conversation! This is a monthly meetup, usually on the third or last Wednesday of the month. The next meeting will be held on December 11. 

North Star Promise Information Session

Hmong Shamanism: Bridging Generations of Spiritual Healing

Join students from HUM 104: Hmong Worldview Through Language, to listen to a panel of guest speakers on Hmong Shamanism, a traditional healing practice deeply rooted in the Hmong spiritual worldview! The panel will feature guest speakers Kong Kay Shawn, Thong lee, Billy Lor of Hey Billy, and faculty member Tou SaiKo Lee, M.A.  

This is a great opportunity to gain deeper insights into Hmong spiritual traditions! All members of the university are welcome to attend. 

Mental Health First Aid Training

  • When: Wednesday, November 13, 9 am to 3:30 pm

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based program that teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. All students, faculty, and staff at Metro are welcome to join! 

Each training consists of: 

  • 2.5 hour self-paced online course (prework) 
  • 5.5 hour instructor-led training 
  • Final quiz and survey 

Participants must complete the self-paced online course prior to the instructor-led training. Participants are required to attend the entirety of the instructor-led training in order to receive certification.

Study Abroad in Japan Summer Program

A possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has presented itself to Metro Students in the form of a study abroad summer program in Japan! There are two information sessions you may attend, both over Zoom. While immersing yourself in Japanese culture, you can also earn 4 credits for HIST 72A: History of Japanese Popular Culture.
