Recently, independent musician David W. Jacobsen reached out to me about his newly released album, A Tree Falls. Jacobsen, a singer-songwriter, has been writing and creating music for over 20 years. He attended Berklee College of Music, where he built a solid foundation in music theory.

His new album, A Tree Falls, offers a commentary on being rejected or ignored, blending zany humor with dramatic, sharp music. While listening, I noticed influences from The Smiths, Talking Heads, Cat Stevens, and The Beastie Boys. Another singer-songwriter, Shanan Mark, aptly described Jacobsen’s album: ‘It brings a 60’s flavor to an 80’s indie rock package.’ I couldn’t have summed it up better myself.

Jacobsen’s songs are a vibrant mix of commentary, poetry, satire, and wit. Admittedly, his music is slightly unconventional, but this adds to the album’s overall effect of zany, uncensored reflections on rejection and art. You can check out this album and his other works on Spotify.
