Ahnwee Days is a fun little novel about a fictional small town in Minnesota, called Ahnwee. The main character and mayor of the town, Sybil Voss, tries to save Ahnwee from being diminished into obscurity, just like many other small towns have before. Can she save the town from being erased off the map? Read Ahnwee Days to find out!

This book was a wonderful read! It’s such a cute and funny story with an overlying theme of home. I didn’t grow up in a small town, but I travel through and to them a lot, so I can see the way that they are forgotten by the system. Towns that used to be bustling and happy are now sleepy and empty, the once magnetic small-town charm now a distant memory. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a “laugh out loud satire with no ox left ungored.”

The author of Ahnwee Days, William Burleson, is an alumnus of Metro State! He also used to work for The Metropolitan, mostly writing essay pieces. When asked what inspired him to write this book, here’s what he said:

“I’ve had two jobs in public health in the past twenty or so years that had me traveling pretty regularly to greater Minnesota. I met so many wonderful people, community minded individual(s) doing fantastic work, even though everything seems to be stacked against them. I dedicated the book to them.”
