In a $55 billion deal, EA (Electronic Arts) is being sold, making it the largest-ever private equity buyout. EA is responsible for video game titles like “The Sims,” “Battlefield,” and “Madden NFL.”

The investors include Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, a firm managed by Jared Kushner (President Donald Trump’s son-in-law), and Silver Lake Partners. PIF, currently the largest insider stakeholder, is rolling over its 9.9% investment.

The video game industry’s annual revenue is estimated to be around $196 billion; the film industry only $12.6 billion this past year.

Video games are loved by many. It is estimated that 78% of U.S. households have played a video game. It is fair to say they are also one of the largest influences in our home. When taking a look at these private investors, one has to think that means at least half of those households will have data given and collected by EA Sports.

The sale isn’t only a concern for those who play video games but for everyone who might be part of the 78%.
