Opinion Editor

Candidates must be current Metropolitan State University students. To apply, prepare a cover letter, resume and at least three photographs from your portfolio. Send from your student email to TheMetropolitan@metrostate.edu by Friday, Nov. 16.

The Metropolitan welcomes new Reporters and Opinion Writers year-round.

Reporters must to commit to writing one article per month. (Opinion Writers may write less often.) No journalism experience necessary. All majors welcome.

Current Metro State students are eligible to be paid $50 per published article.

Join us for New Writer Orientation on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Student Center 201.

The two-hour training will get you started on writing your first news article or opinion piece.

To attend, RSVP to TheMetropolitan@metrostate.edu using your student email by Friday, Nov. 2. Include your major/minor and whether you are interested in being a Reporter or an Opinion Writer.

Training topics:

  • Qualities of (and differences between) news writing and opinion writing
  • Generating story ideas
  • Covering a beat and developing sources
  • Interview skills
  • Basic story structure
  • Newspaper policies and procedures (including hiring paperwork to submit to Student Life office during business hours)
