Join the Student Senate
The Student Senate is now accepting applications from students interested in filling vacant Student Senate seats, and those who would like to serve on the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC). Applications for each are due by Sept. 15, 2008.
There are currently two Student Senate seats available. To be eligible to fill a vacancy, a student must be in good academic standing and must attend at least two senate meetings (or functions) prior to being appointed to a seat. The Senate meets, on average, two Friday evenings per month at 6 p.m. on the St. Paul campus. Senators are also expected to serve on at least one committee and to put in about four hours per month in the Student Senate office. Senators are eligible for a monthly stipend of $50.
The SAFAC provides oversight of activity fees and makes recommendations to the Senate on budgets for all student organizations and for the Student Life Office. The committee meets sporadically until spring semester. During “budget season” in spring, SAFAC meets six to eight times over two months. SAFAC members are eligible to receive $30 stipends during months in which the committee holds a meeting.
