Hispanic Heritage Month events calendar
Hispanic Heritage month begins Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 15. During this time there are many scheduled events taking place at Metropolitan State University to help celebrate the rich Hispanic culture.
Tuesday, September 18 — Speaker, Rafael Ortiz: “Puerto Rico No Se Vende: Nationalism, the economy and the geographics of the political;” Library and Learning Center, Ecolab 302, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Rafael is assistant professor of social science at Metropolitan State and MacArthur Fellow on Global Change, Sustainability and Justice at the University of Minnesota.
Thursday, September 20 — Video, “Frida Kahlo”: Library and Learning Center , Ecolab 302, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Friday, September 21 — Performance, Chicago Cuatro Orchestra: directed by Orlando and David Rivera; Founders Hall, Auditorium, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Diana is a writer and photographer.
Tuesday, September 25 — Lecture by Diana Molina: “Seven-String Barbed Wire Fence: Faces of Latino Immigration in the United States ;” Founders Hall, Auditorium, noon-2 p.m.
Friday, September 28 — Movie, “Walkout”: Founders Hall, Auditorium, noon-2 p.m.
Tuesday, October 2 — Speaker, Jose E. Vega: “De facto: School Segregation and the Latino Student;” Library and Learning Center , Ecolab 302, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Jose is a professor of education at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls.
Tuesday, October 9 — Speaker, Vicente Cabrera Funes: “My Work as Educator and Novelist;” Library and Learning Center , Ecolab 302, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Vicente is a professor of Spanish at the University of Minnesota – Morris. |
