Nestor Amarilla, who grew up in Coronel Oviedo, Paraguay, didn’t have much. His parents, who have never been outside their small town, farm cotton on the land, earning only $800 a year. At 17, Amarilla came to Minnesota on a full academic achievement scholarship and finished high school here........

Searching how a hacker wrought incalculable damage to a computer system. Tracing mysterious, harassing emails. Identifying an embezzler who misappropriated thousands or even millions of dollars. Computer forensics specialists might be asked to investigate, analyze and present digital evidence on all the above matters and much more. The need for such professionals is expected to mushroom, which is one reason Metropolitan State University will be offering a bachelor of applied science in computer forensics this fall........

Twin Cities’ North Central Blood Service (NCBS), a division of the American Red Cross, presently maintains a dangerously low blood supply, says Jack Sheehan, public relations representative. I sat down with Anne Lies, a former editor of The Metropolitan newspaper, in front of Nina’s Coffee Shop in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood of St. Paul. It didn’t surprise me that Anne wanted to sit outside, regardless of the ninety-degree temperature we had that day. This is because Anne, like her musical group The Mila Vocal Ensemble, is drawn toward things European. And what is more European than sitting at a sidewalk café?.......

Metropolitan State University Hmong students assist Hmong refugees

Chor Her was born in Laos and resided for many years at a refugee camp in Thailand. Her is one of several thousand Hmong refugees who were recently invited to live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Pa Hua Her, a junior at Metropolitan State University and a second-generation Hmong has lived in the metropolitan area all her life. Pa Hua’s upbringing was strikingly different from Chor’s. None of that mattered at the HCC class.......
