Student Science Association finishes their first round of CPR classes

Nine students from Metropolitan State University received their CPR certifications after attending two CPR training session offered by the Student Science Association (SSA). The class has a hands-on approach where students use training dummies and other equipment to master the lessons.

SSA is very excited to offer such valuable training to all Metropolitan State Students and Staff. They will be holding three more certification sessions this semester. The dates for the upcoming sessions are: Nov. 6, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Nov 27, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec 4, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. All of these training sessions will be held at the St. Paul Campus. Additional dates and times are available for groups of six or less. For more information please contact instructor Naomi Koenig at koenigna@go.metrostate.edu.

The CPR Certification sessions are just one among the many other things SSA is doing on campus. SSA wants to help science students at Metropolitan State grow and expand their scope of science and all that it encompasses. SSA promotes communication and networking among science, pre-health and all interested students. They also stimulate interest in matters pertaining to science and pre-health professions through guest speakers, demonstrations and tours and help expose students to professionals in their chosen fields as potential references. SSA also offers some peer tutoring opportunities. Currently the SSA is offering services for Chemistry 111 and Chemistry Society and the Environment through the Chemistry Center. The Chemistry Center is a place for chemistry students to gather and further their knowledge of chemistry through peer interaction. The Chemistry Center is located on the St. Paul Campus, Center for Academic Excellence-LIB 130 and is open on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students from all levels of Chemistry are welcome.

All Metropolitan State students are welcome to attend monthly meetings held by SSA. For exact dates and detailed information about SSA please contact 952-373-9708 or e-mail Naomi Koenig president koenigna@go.metrostate.edu, Dr. Todd Lafrenz, advisor, todd.lafrenz@metrostate.edu.
