Save the newspapers, save MinnPost

In today’s world of mass media, the battle wages on between the Internet and print. Although some may reject outwardly admitting it, we all know who’s running in the lead. Several findings and results have illustrated a demise of the newspaper industry, and a fast-working one at that. In a recent New Yorker article (via the Internet, mind you), statistics show that since 1990, a quarter of all American newspaper jobs have diminished...

Sport Explorations: Hang Gliding

The rain cleared and the sun broke through just in time. It was nearly 5 p.m. and I was scheduled to fly very soon. I was greeted at the trailer by Tom Thompson Sr., the administrator of Freeflight Aviations in Whitewater, WI. He was a very funny and friendly guy—constantly cracking jokes as he gave me his “song and dance instructional”—he had me sign the waiver forms and found me a helmet. He led me to Mark Furst, a kind, red-headed pilot with a matching red mustache, who had been flying for 20 years. We took a glider out of the hanger and pulled it to a grassy field bordered by rich rows of corn...
