The Metropolitan newspaper is a student organization that welcomes students from all programs to write articles for publication.

Published articles will bolster your professional credentials and are required for the portfolio of any professional writer.

To hear about our current story leads, discuss your own article or learn how to use your area of expertise as the subject of an article, contact the editor at: gavnikpa@go.metrostate.edu

Currently enrolled Metropolitan State University students can earn:

  • $30 stipend for published articles*
  • $10 stipend for published photos, illustrations or comics.

Internships are also available to interested parties. Please call 651-793-1555 for more information.

For inclusion into our Viewpoint section, please submit all queries, letters and commentary togavnikpa@go.metrostate.edu .

*Only Metropolitan State students qualify for payment. However, anyone wishing to contribute is welcome to submit queries to gavnikpa@go.metrostate.edu.

The Metropolitan does not accept unsolicited submissions.

The Metropolitan is published with student fees.


Summer hours for university services

Beginning Friday, May 20, most university offices will be open for service to students and the public 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:00 a.m.–noon on Fridays, through Friday, Aug. 19.

St. Paul - Library and Learning Center:
Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.–10 p.m.
Fridays, 8:00 a.m. –5:30 p.m.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. –5:00 p.m.
Sundays, 1 p.m. –5 p.m.

Midway Open Lab:
Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. –10:00 p.m.
Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Minneapolis Open Lab:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8:00 a.m. –4:40 p.m.
Wednesday, 8:00 a.m.–6:40 p.m.
Friday, 8:00 a.m.–3:40 p.m.
