Giving made easy
Student Senate helps students make a difference in the lives of needy families

You now have the opportunity to donate goods to a shelter for battered women and children. In an effort to serve the community, the Student Senate will support the Lewis House of Eagan, a temporary shelter for abused and battered Twin Cities women and their children.

Families often come to the house with little more than the clothes on their backs. Moving to an unfamiliar environment is trying for children, and the gift of a small toy can make a child’s day brighter. Basic hygiene supplies will make the stay more comfortable and homey for children as well as adults.

The Student Senate seeks donations from students and staff of Metropolitan State University. Receptacles will be placed at the St. Paul and Midway campuses.

New or gently used items will be accepted. Items most needed include:

Household items: bath towels, batteries, paper products such as paper towels and napkins, cleaning supplies, vacuum cleaners and small televisions.

Children’s items: portable playpens, diapers (size 2-5), Pull-Ups, baby wipes, infant bottles (8-ounce size), craft supplies and clothing and slippers (any size).

Personal hygiene items: adult, child and infant pain relievers, shampoo and conditioner (including brands for African American hair), antibacterial hand soap, lotion and saline solution.

Clothing items: women’s, children’s and infant undergarments and socks, pajamas and slippers, pants and shirts.

Any questions or suggestions regarding this initiative can be directed to James Mussehl at mussehja@go.metrostate.edu. Thank you for your support and generosity in these efforts! Check out www.metrostate.edu/senate for updated information.
