Darcel Hill named Power of YOU advisor
Darcel M. Hill of St. Paul was named the College of Arts and Sciences advisor for the Power of YOU students at Metropolitan State University.
This is a two-year, fixed-term appointment through June 2009. She works closely with faculty and staff to welcome the Power of YOU students and to help them be successful at the university. Power of YOU is a program that makes the first two years of college available tuition free for residents from public, charter or alternative high schools in Minneapolis or St. Paul.
Darcel has worked at Metropolitan State since 2005 as assistant director for student and retention services and liaison for African-American students. Previously she worked at Saint Paul College as program director vocational advisor for special populations and as admissions and retention advisor. Also, she directed college access programs during summers for disadvantaged high school students. She also serves part-time as Project SPIRIT/Freedom School director with the Saint Paul Area Council of Churches. She is an associate pastor at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis.
Darcel holds an individualized B.A. from Metropolitan State, a B.A. in theology from San Antonio Theological Seminary, an M.A. in counseling and a doctorate in theology from Minnesota Graduate School of Theology.
