Women’s Services coordinator named

Jessica Helle-Morrissey of Roseville was appointed Women’s Services coordinator at Metropolitan State University, effective Nov. 13.

She develops and oversees programming for women students that creates a positive learning environment and encourages their full participation in the academic and social life of the university.

Helle-Morrissey also provides support and advocacy to women students and referrals to other university offices when appropriate.

In addition, she develops and implements retention strategies and reviews, and develops and recommends policies and procedures that promote academic success.

Lastly, Helle-Morrissey encourages feedback from the university community on how the office can best serve women on campus.

Helle-Morrissey comes to Metropolitan State from Capella University where she was an academic advisor.

Previously, she was a crisis counselor and group facilitator for the Rape and Sexual Abuse Center, Neighborhood Involvement Program, in Minneapolis.

She also taught at Sheridan Hills Elementary School in Richfield.

Her professional areas of interest include stress-management and wellness, women’s career and identity development and issues relating to sexual violence.

Helle-Morrissey holds a B.A. in education and music performance and an M.S. in counseling and student personnel psychology, both from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She is a doctoral student in clinical psychology at Capella University, Minneapolis.
