All our voices matter—have yours heard in the Student Senate

-- Elissa Garman

The Student Senate is the governing body at Metropolitan State University. Acting as a liaison between students, faculty and the administration, the Student Senate takes pride in advocating for the Metropolitan State University student population. Included in this mission is the important task of maintaining and supporting cultural diversity, which is the backbone of Metropolitan State University.

In achieving this goal, the Student Senate continuously works towards progressive activism and leadership to ensure that all students have a forum to present their concerns, voice their opinions, suggest ideas and participate in the many events that aid in making Metropolitan State University unique.

The Student Senate invites all interested students to complete the required candidate application and place their name on the ballot for the Senate election. Applications for Student Senate will begin on Monday, Mar. 13 and be due by noon on Wednesday, April 5. After all interested students have been identified, candidates will have an opportunity to promote their candidacy around all Metropolitan Campuses. Elections will begin on Tuesday, April 11 and end on Tuesday, April 20.

The voting process is done online at http://senate.metrostate.edu/. Voters will be asked to click on the elections link and choose 15 people they feel would best represent the students of Metropolitan State University.

The Student Senate recognizes the student body at Metropolitan State University is a diverse and busy community, however, student senators have proven their work to be very effective, regardless of time constraints. Each student at Metropolitan State University has a unique perspective to offer—making our university a multifaceted environment in which to pursue goals and continue with academic endeavors.

If you are interested in running for a seat on the Student Senate, please download an application at http://senate.metrostate.edu and return it to the Student Life Office located on the St. Paul Campus, Founders Hall Room 202, by noon on April 5.
