Students descend upon Washington DC
Students get a lesson in lobbying as they petition U.S. legislators for tuition relief

A group of Metropolitan students descended upon the nation’s Capitol for the DC Summit. Minnesota State University Student Association (MSUSA) hosted the summit. “This was the first conference of this kind,” said Clayt Freed, executive director of MSUSA. The summit lasted four days. Students spent Saturday and Sunday learning how to lobby for tuition freeze legislation and preparing to meet with political leaders on Monday and Tuesday.......

Online classes entice students and administrators

Online learning, also known as “distance education,” has come a long way from the correspondence courses promoted 20 years ago on television. Any student can browse through the fall 2005 registration book and see there are more than 100 online course offerings. They can also see that they cost more, which brings up some questions: Why do they cost more? What is the benefit? And what is the future of Metropolitan in regard to online learning?.......

Vote to empower students
Student Senate elections take place April 11-18

You may be wondering, what is Student Senate? Student Senate is a governing body, and their primary purpose is to represent and advocate for students. It acts as a liaison between students, faculty and the administration. As student representatives, senators vow to provide service and hold events to help students build relationships within the university and maintain support for cultural diversity. Candidates were selected on March 8, and many new students are interested in the senate. Elections will take place the week of April 11-18. Now, we need your votes.......

“To be a good writer, a person needs to write, as much and as often as possible.” This advice comes from Hans Eisenbies, editor-in-chief of The Rake magazine. “Writing for publication is better than not, because it pushes a writer to work with an editor and to write for readership,” he adds. Metropolitan State University’s student newspaper is a place for writers to find their voice and begin to build a writing portfolio.
