Free theater for students Students are invited to attend a theater production presented by Minneapolis Community & Technical College’s Theatre on the Park and Metropolitan State University’s Theater Underground. The Imaginary Invalid is an enduring farce about Argan, a would-be invalid. Argan spends his time and wealth obsessing over his perceived chronic poor health, and following the many orders of his doctors. His farcical household includes Angelica, his daughter of marriageable age; Beline, his cheating, second wife, who is after his estate; and Toinette, his willful servant and nursemaid, who takes better care of Argan than his doctors. The play pokes fun at the medical profession. Moliere was an outspoken critic of the medicine practiced by his contemporaries, which he portrays as trickery designed to milk patients of their money by falsely convincing them they are sick. Five performances of the play will be held at the Whitney Fine Arts Center located at 1424 Yale Place, Minneapolis. Performance dates are April 13, 14, 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. A special matinee will be performed April 16 at 1 p.m. Admission to all performances is free, but students are asked to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to local food shelves.
